Newport

Built between 1824 and 1857, Fort Adams crowns a rise at the end of the peninsula that juts northward into Newport Harbor. Like many American coastal fortresses, it's had a short, practical life as a deterrent followed by a long life as a tourist attraction. Admission includes an hour-long guided tour. Check the website for details of special themed tours.
