Stockalper Palace

Valais

Kaspar von Stockalper (1609–91), a shrewd businessman who dominated the Simplon Pass trade routes, built this whimsical palace and dubbed himself the ‘Great Stockalper’. Locals didn’t like his bloated ego and sent him packing to Italy. Wander for free the main court and beautiful baroque gardens with quintessential parterres, fountains and clipped hedges.
