Upper Temple of Zeus

Jerash

Though most of it has collapsed, this temple has imposing 15m-high columns that are some of Jerash's most dramatic. The thick walls of the sanctum still stand, giving a clear view of how the original temple would have looked in its prime.

The tumble of columns in front of the temple speak to the destructive power of the earthquake that levelled Jerash in the 8th century.
