I'm a writer and novelist who's contributed to dozens of Lonely Planet books over the years. Originally from North Carolina, I spent a decade in Hong Kong before returning to the US. I love hiking, trying new foods, beachcombing, and learning quirky bits of local history (graveyards a great spot for this!). My favorite travel spots involve hot springs or saunas - Taiwan, Finland and Japan have been some of my favorites!
