Kartoffel Kiste

Trier

Fronted by a bronze fountain, local favourite Kartoffel Kiste specialises, as its name suggests, in baked, breaded, gratinéed, soupified and sauce-doused potatoes. If you're after something heartier (albeit pricier), it also does great schnitzel and steaks. There are 220 seats inside and, in warmer weather, another 120 on the terrace.

Children's dishes, such as Bob the Builder (small pork schnitzel) or Pippi Longstocking (sausages and fries) are €5.
