This place promises 'books you don't need in a place you can't find.' Luckily, both claims are slightly exaggerated. Housed in a converted cedar gristmill from 1842, the Bookmill's maze of rooms are packed with used books and comfy couches. Westward-facing walls are punctuated by large windows that overlook the roiling Sawmill River and its waterfall.
An art gallery and casual cafe share the same awesome river view, making it a fun place to join locals whiling away a lazy afternoon. From Amherst, take MA 63 to the Montague Center exit. Take a left off the exit and turn right onto Main St. Continue through the town center, bearing left after the village green onto Greenfield Rd; the mill is on the left.
