Twenty-two miles southwest of Williston, Fort Buford is close to Fort Union Trading Post and is located near Missouri River. It's the bleak army outpost where Sitting Bull surrendered. Only a few reconstructed buildings remain today. The adjacent Missouri-Yellowstone Confluence Interpretive Center includes the fort's visitor center. The entire complex is a bit run-down.
