Funchal's top chain of bakeries has been milling coffee beans and blackening the surfaces of pastel de nata since 1844, and its neatly designed cafes are arguably the best on the island. This branch breaks the mould with a dramatic interior of white and blue, with the odd retro element giving that perfect 21st-century look.
