Eco-Albergue La Fundadora

An incredibly peaceful, community-run rural lodge set in a breathtaking position overlooking mountainside coffee plantations and farmland, La Fundadora is about 5km along a bumpy dirt track off the main Jinotega–Matagalpa highway. The half a dozen cute brick huts with tiled roofs offer clean but rustic accommodations amid utter tranquility, and tasty meals (US$2.30 to US$3.50) are served onsite.

The savvy young management arranges a variety of activities for visitors, including a truly authentic coffee tour (US$10 per visitor) with a local farming family, horseback riding (US$20 for four hours for up to three people), hikes to La Bujona (US$10) and three-hour cycling tours (US$30) through the gorgeous countryside.
