Diamonds Mequfi Beach Resort

Northern Mozambique

The newest of half a dozen luxury Indian Ocean Diamond resorts, this one guards its own slice of sand around 12km south of Murrébuè. Despite its large size, it's deliciously tranquil, with accommodation in neat detached villas featuring wooden beams and thatched roofs. There are numerous handy extras including spa, medical clinic, car hire and childcare.

The resort also has its own stables (for horse-riding excursions) and water-sports centre: kitesurfing is becoming increasingly popular here.
