Single-handedly flying the flag for backpackers in Harare, It's a Small World does a wonderful job catering to the needs of independent travellers. It knows what backpackers want – clean rooms, fast and free wi-fi, a communal kitchen, pool table, rooftop deck and a sociable, low-key bar. Bikes are also available for hire (US$5 per day).
Its atmosphere is relaxed, with an inviting pool, and a garden decorated with Shona sculpture.
Staff can arrange a number of city tours, and food is available with a few hours' notice. There's also a more laid-back location in the city, as well as lodges in the Eastern Highlands and Mavuradonha Wilderness, for those who like to get off the beaten track.
