One of Zimbabwe's original backpackers, Heaven Lodge fell on hard times during the turmoil, but is back as good as ever. It's run by friendly owners, Jacqui and Allen, who are excellent sources of info, and know exactly what backpackers want: cold beer, warm showers and clean rooms. Its common area is a highlight with excellent food, bar and lounge with roaring fireplace.
The mix of rooms all have natural light and homely touches such as fresh flowers and artworks; BYO towel. There's a nice lawn, too, with a mountainous national park backdrop. On Saturdays Jacqui and Allen fire up the pizza oven, which attracts folk from all over town. Breakfasts are also great, and feature proper filter coffee. It's located on the edge of town on the road into the national park.
