Farmhouse

Zimbabwe

Run by local farmer Tempe (who has spent her whole life in Chimanimani) and her husband Doug, this 100-year-old homestead is set on a 4-hectare farm. There's a mix of rooms, from tiny bedrooms to cottages and lofts, or the entire house for US$100. It's a good place to arrange your trek, and kids will love the farm animals here.

It's also a nice spot to relax with its inspiring views of the surrounding hills and rustic porch overlooking an impressive mahogany tree. Horse riding can be arranged, which is free for guests. With enough notice your hosts can provide roast lamb, as well as fresh milk and local honey, but otherwise it's self-catering. It's also BYO linen and towels, or you can call ahead to arrange. Tempe is an excellent source of info on trekking, and the website has good descriptions of the area.
