Moorings Campsite

Zambia

This is perhaps the most beautifully landscaped campsite in Zambia. It’s a lovely secluded spot on an old farm with plenty of grass and there are open-walled thatch rondavels scattered around the campsite and a braai next to them for cooking. It's perhaps the best place to break a journey between Lusaka and Livingstone, or to access Lochinvar National Park.

Chalets have two single beds and are a simple, practical affair. There are tents for hire too. There’s plenty of shade, and a large thatch-roofed bar area with a stone floor where simple meals are available. At sunset this is a particularly beautiful place with nothing but the sound of birdsong in the African bush. Day visitors are welcome to use braais and the grassed area for a picnic. Proceeds are used to support an onsite clinic and the Malambo Women’s Centre.

Moorings is located 11km north of the village of Monze, which is 180km southwest of Lusaka. It's easily reached by car or public transport along the Great North Rd (look out for the black-and-white sign). The campsite is 2km off the main road. From Moorings Campsite, it's about a two-hour drive (53km) to reach Lochnivar National Park, accessible by 4WD only.
