If you've outgrown the whole backpacker scene, but still want something informal and homely – and social, if inclined – then Bongwe's your place. Run by UK expat Stacey, the staff here are exceptionally friendly and helpful, and rooms (some of which share bathrooms) are spotless and spacious. There's a stocked kitchen, couches in the living room and a sparkling pool to relax by.
Its convivial bar is another reason to stay here.
Bongwe is set in a compound that opens up to a spacious tree-filled property, around 3km north from Arcades Shopping Centre. There's a handy supermarket next door. They also run safaris to Kafue National Park.
