Luangwa Bridge Camp

Zambia

A great place to break up the drive between Lusaka and Chipata, Luangwa Bridge Camp offers a good menu and drinks list, and scenic spot overlooking the river. It does filtered Zambian coffee, cold drinks, burgers, pizzas and steaks, as well as gourmet items such as deep-fried crumbed camembert or a tempura prawn burger with onion rings.

It's a good spot to pitch a tent, however its stone chalets are significantly overpriced. There's a swimming pool if you want a quick dip, or there's hiking (half/full day US$20/40), sundowner canoe trips (or longer journeys from US$50) and multiday river gorge treks if you want to hang around.

Located along the Great East Rd, Luangwa Bridge is 230km from Lusaka. If you're coming by bus, get off between Lusaka and Chipata at the place called ‘Luangwa station’, from where it’s a 3km walk to the camp.
