St John's Place is only open two nights a week and offers only three 'plates' alongside a wider range of 'bar snacks', but this narrow focus seems to allow the kitchen plenty of room for experimentation and aspiration. The refinement of the food is offset by the simple elegance of the decor, and adventurous diners will be amply rewarded.
The restaurant's pious name is a direct reference to the listed chapel it partly occupies. It was originally founded in the late 13th century, and John Wesley once preached here.
