Valentina’s Guesthouse

Fergana Valley

This unglamorous but good-value Russian-style homestay has six comfortable rooms with king-sized beds and shared bathrooms in two neighbouring Soviet apartments. The nine-floor apartment block, topped by a huge antenna, sticks out like a sore thumb; walk around the back, take the left-hand entrance and walk to the 4th floor. Ever-patient Valentina speaks Russian but only a little English.

There's also a separate, spacious apartment across the street but it lacks wi-fi and sometimes air-con.
