Maine Avenue Fish Market

Washington, DC

This open-air fish market has long been adored for its no-nonsense vendors selling fish, crabs, oysters and other seafood so fresh it's still flopping. And now it has received a refresh in conjunction with the adjacent District Wharf. You'll find more seating, a plaza and pier for entertainment, and the restoration of its 100-plus-year-old oyster shed into Rappahannock Oyster Bar.

The restoration also includes a new rum distillery, a three-story Italian market, bar and eatery called Officina, and an old-fashioned soda-pop shop by a former fish market employee of 30 years.
