City House Hostel Washington DC

Washington, DC

This small, jolly hostel puts you a few blocks from H St's rollicking nightlife. The rooms, in shades of sky blue, tomato red and other bright paints, have bunk beds for four to 12 people. One quibble: if the hostel is near full, waits for the bathrooms can be an issue. The free-beer happy hour rocks each evening.

There's a game room and big TV hooked up to cable, Netflix and Hulu for communal movie nights. Note the hostel has a no-shoe policy inside.
