Deep Creek

Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Near Bryson City this medium-sized family campground with 92 sites offers a good variety of choices and splendid opportunities for hiking and bird-watching. Section C features creekside, tent-only sites; section D, a loop road through the woods, affords more privacy. The waters of Deep Creek give much joy to inner-tubers and anglers (the park, however, discourages inner-tubing here).

Advance reservations are not possible here; it's first-come, first-served. Use the self-pay kiosk (credit cards accepted) upon arrival.

Near the entrance to the campground is the village of Big Creek, with a snack bar and tube rentals. To get there from the depot in Bryson City, turn right onto Depot St, left on Ramseur Rd and then immediately right on Deep Creek Rd.

This is a great base for trout fishing and hiking. Several waterfalls are in easy walking distance from the campground.
