Brown Hotel

Louisville

Opera stars, queens and prime ministers have trod the marble floors of this storied downtown hotel, now restored to its 1920s glamor with 294 comfy rooms and an impressive lobby bourbon bar under original English Renaissance gilded ceilings.

In 1926, Louisville's signature dish, the hot brown (open-faced sandwich with turkey, bacon and Mornay sauce) was invented here and is still served in all three in-house restaurants (from $20).
