Enjoy a spot of Birmingham posh at this fine Italian establishment in the Highlands, one of three stellar restaurants owned by chef Frank Stitt. The parmesan souffle is a signature starter, and they do a nice spaghetti with scallops and a popular hanger steak. Make reservations.

Right next door is Café Bottega, a more casual iteration of the restaurant with lower prices that draws preppy, seersucker-wearing crowds for lunch and dinner. Try the creative pizzas like crawfish and conecuh sausage, or the piadina (a type of Italian flatbread) with watercress, mint, dill, walnuts and radish.
