La Fonda de Taos

This venerable inn, the only lodging on the Plaza, is not quite as upscale as you might expect (decor is decidedly uninspired) though the public areas have charm and most rooms come with kiva gas fireplaces. There’s also a unique claim to fame – the 'Forbidden Art' paintings by DH Lawrence, banned in 1929 Europe (visit for $3).
