Planters Inn

Charleston

Elegant and centrally located, this upscale historic hotel has added some fabulous new rooms, including the most sumptuous quarters in the city. The 1460-sq-ft pied-à-terre, dubbed the St Philip Suite, comes with a David Boatwright mural, the best view in the city, regally arched doorways and much more. It's pretty ridiculous, ya'll.

There are many other levels of accommodations, but all are fairly lavish, with four-poster beds and sometimes a bathtub in the bedroom. Service is at a very high level, and the restaurant Peninsula Grill tends to get the thumbs up.
