The Gold Dust is so beloved by San Franciscans that when it lost its lease on the Union Sq building it had occupied since the 1930s, then reopened in 2013 at the Wharf – with the same precarious Victorian brass chandeliers and twangy rockabilly band – the mayor declared it 'Gold Dust Lounge Day.'
This is likely the only Wharf bar where you may spot an actual local; come for strong drink and a dose of red-velvet nostalgia. And it's sure hard to beat the $6.50 Irish coffees when the fog blows in, catching you shivering in short pants.
