Denver

Denver’s world-class zoo has more than 700 animal species housed in considerate enclosures that do their best to mirror native habitats. There are native and exotic animals, including rhinos, gorillas and giant Komodo dragons. You won't want to miss the elephant passage and the tiger exhibit, which has bridges that pass 12ft above visitors' heads.

The zoo periodically offers free-admission days – check the website for info.
