Historic Plains Hotel

Top choice in Wyoming

Around since 1911, this beautiful old belle drips with period atmosphere in the public areas; the antique lift is deliberately small so that cowboys wouldn't try to sneak their horses upstairs and into the rooms. Ask for a street-facing room; those facing onto the internal light well are a little dark.

The sense of history is a little more muted in the rooms, but they're still a stroll down memory lane. The suites are enormous and have a mix of the antique with the quirky (such as coat racks with cowboy boots for hooks). The massive visitor book in the lobby is a wonderful historical document.
