Brooklyn Barge

Brooklyn: Williamsburg, Greenpoint & Bushwick

Bracing breezes and expansive views of Manhattan's skyline make this floating barge Greenpoint's most invigorating drinking hole. Moored to land via a wooden bridge, the alfresco bar serves local draft beers, good cocktails plus some wines and cider. Reducing any impetus to leave is a menu of sharer plates like Thai-chili wings, tacos and lobster rolls from the repurposed-shipping-container kitchen.

The barge does rock a bit if a larger boat speeds by, so for landlubbers there's a more stationary area onshore with tables and shade umbrellas, in front of an atmospheric, rusted-out warehouse. But the views across the East River from the barge are unbeatable, especially on a warm, clear night, with the Manhattan skyline – the Liberty Tower, the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building – arrayed before you.
