Henry Norman Hotel

Brooklyn: Williamsburg, Greenpoint & Bushwick

Set in a former 19th-century warehouse, this striking brick building (once home to artists' lofts) is styled like a love letter to Brooklyn. High-ceilinged rooms feel bohemian but debonair, with hardwood floors, dove-gray sofas, brass lamps and vivid artwork throughout – all of it made by the same Brooklyn artist. Scour the website for advance discounted rates.

Antiques, like typewriters and throwback telephones, are tastefully sprinkled in among mod cons. Pricier rooms have terraces (some with city views) and better-equipped kitchenettes.

It's on an industrial stretch of roadway, but the hip bars, shops and cafes of Greenpoint are about a 15-minute walk away (or take the complimentary shuttle service). The same owners also run the Box House Hotel, found further north in Greenpoint.
