Marram

Top choice in Long Island

New in 2019, this revamped golden age motel now sits strikingly dressed in a cedar and mahogany exterior opposite the Terrace beach surf break. Marram (dune grass) leaps from the minidunes that pepper the property, leading to minimalist rooms awash in extraordinary design: white oak ceilings and furniture, Waterworks bathroom fixtures, poured concrete flooring and Morocco-evoking Tadelakt plaster walls.

Art abounds in the 96 rooms, from Brian Bielmann photography to sketches from Rhode Island–based musician and artist Sean Spellman; and the on-site cafe, courtesy of Uruguayan chefs, does a breakfast spread (not included) that will leave you drooling left and right. Rates are pricey, but a long list of activities are included. The on-site surf school features lessons by the famed Engstrom siblings.
