Eli's Essentials

Upper East Side

The youngest son of the founders of Zabar's delicatessen is building a mini empire on the Upper East Side, and this update on New York's traditional Jewish deli is perfect for a pitstop near Fifth Ave's Museum Mile. As well as lox bagels and Eli's signature egg brioche roll, there's a buffet with fried chicken, mac 'n' cheese and salads.

At night, the half of the cafe that offers Parisian-style seating turns into a wine bar – 'Bar 91' – with dishes such as braised baby artichokes, hanger steak and orecchiette with hot Italian sausage, all designed to pair with the 25 vintages on the menu.
