The Penrose, famous for its dirty pickle martinis and beer-battered pickles, brings a dose of style to the UES, with craft beers, exposed brick walls, vintage mirrors, reclaimed wood details and friendly bartenders. It's packed with a young neighborhood crowd on weekends, but you can usually get a seat along the wall or in the back.
There are 12 taps of mostly craft, a decent selection of Irish whiskeys (no surprise, given the owners hail from Cork) and plenty of good pub fare: fried chicken sandwiches, farro and burrata grain bowls, smoked beet reubens and beef and wild salmon burgers, among others. Best of all, food is served until 2am.
