Barneys

Midtown

Serious fashionistas swipe their plastic at Barneys, respected for its collections of top-tier labels like Isabel Marant Étoile, Mr&Mrs Italy and Lanvin – all spaced out adequately enough to show just how precious each collection is. If you're not armed with the big bucks, expect to find it a little intimidating.

Highlights include the basement cosmetics department, the chic Freds restaurant and Genes, a futuristic cafe with touch-screen communal tables for online shopping. At time of research Barneys had recently declared bankruptcy proceedings and downsizing plans, but this flagship store and its downtown Manhattan branch on Seventh Ave were to remain open.
