A restored art deco jewel in the heart of Theater District, the Chatwal is as atmospheric as it is historic; the likes of Fred Astaire and Irving Berlin supped, sipped and sang in the thespian Lambs Club that once occupied this building. Luxe rooms have closets inspired by steamer cabin trunks and vintage Broadway posters on the walls, but also mod-cons like TVs in bathroom mirrors and iPad room controls.
Fourteen rooms have terraces. Additional perks include complimentary butler service, a gym with Peloton bikes, an in-house luxury spa and indoor lap pool. The beaux-arts building itself is the work of Stanford White, creator of the Washington Square Arch. Chatwal's 1st-floor art deco bar, named after the original Lambs Club, is a popular pretheater cocktail stop.
