Gershwin Theatre

Midtown

The former Uris Theatre is one of the largest theaters on Broadway, seating nearly 2000. One of NYC's biggest flops played here: Via Galactica (a musical by Hair composer Galt MacDermot), which closed after only seven performances and lost more than a million dollars. Its many successes include Singin' in the Rain, the original production of Oklahoma! and, currently, Wicked.

An extravagant prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the long-running, pop-rock musical Wicked gives the story's witches a turn to tell the tale. The musical is based on Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel.
