NYC’s only all-women and skater-operated roller derby league has four borough-inspired home teams: the Bronx Gridlock, Brooklyn Bombshells, Manhattan Mayhem and Queens of Pain. Games are held monthly from March through August at various locations around the city (check the website for details); they're somewhat raucous but family-friendly events, and kids are welcome.
In fact, it's a great chance for young girls to see the pint-sized Gotham Girls Junior Derby skaters kick some ass in exhibition matches at half-time.
Games often sell out, so buy your ticket in advance if you don't want to chance it at the door.
