Cooter’s scores points with locals because it served as a community gathering place in the aftermath of Katrina. Pause to appreciate the tavern’s ‘Celebrity Hall of Foam and Beersoleum’ – a gallery of more than 100 plaster bas-relief statuettes of mostly 1970s celebs from Liberace to Chairman Mao, each holding a bottle of beer. This curious, still-growing exhibit is the work of the uniquely talented Scott Conary.
