City of Rocks State Park

New Mexico

This state park, 33 miles southeast of Silver City via Hwys 180 and 61, has a quirky, cartoonish beauty. More village than 'city,' it’s a bit too pocket-sized to count as a hiking destination, but kids will love exploring the pathways between its rounded volcanic towers, and secluded sites with tables and fire pits make it a memorable camping spot.

For a short hike or to take a few photographs, the day-use fee is $5 per vehicle (7am to 9pm).
