This campground is designed specifically for stargazing, with a series of concrete platforms on which to set up telescopes and observational equipment. Thanks to its remote location away from light pollution, the campground was designated an International Dark Sky Sanctuary in 2016. Year-round dry, clear conditions mean the Milky Way is on show almost every night.
Visitors are asked to turn off all artificial light after dark and to put red plastic over flashlights to avoid any light pollution. There are no dedicated tent pitches or RV hookups, so you can pitch your tent anywhere you like. There are clean, basic toilet facilities on-site but no showers; the nearest food store/water is found 8 miles south in Alma.
