Founders Brewing Co

Top choice in Michigan

If you've only got time for one stop in Grand Rapids, make it rock-and-roll Founders. The ruby-colored Dirty Bastard Ale is good swillin', and there's meaty (or vegetable-y, for vegetarians) deli sandwiches to soak it up.

Founders is one of Michigan's largest breweries. The tap room is huge and, despite this, it's still jam-packed with all ages each night. People pile in for the fun, noisy scene and 30-plus heady beers on tap. No reservations, so you'll have to swoop like a vulture if you see an empty table. The shop sells groovy t-shirts and beery items. Hour-long brewery tours and tastings (per person $17.50) are offered sporadically; check the schedule.
