Ulysses S Grant Home

Illinois

The 1860 abode was a gift from local Republicans to the victorious general at the Civil War’s end. Grant lived here until he became the country’s 18th president. Docents take you through the house. Around 90% of the furnishings are original.

Look out for Grant's favorite green chair, which made it to the White House and back, and Julia Grant's 15lb Bible dating back to 1865.
