Wow, multicultural shave ice (called 'ice shave' on the Big Island)! Filipino 'halo halo' includes coconut milk, ube (purple yam) ice cream, agar jellies and avocado. Japanese 'kakigori' features vanilla ice cream, mochi (sticky rice cake), strawberry sauce and sweetened adzuki beans. Caveat: syrups are the old-fashioned kind, day-glo and sugary.
