On Hwy 19 N, 7 miles or so north of town, this revamped option could be known as the Boutique Hotel Formerly Known as Hiker Hostel. New owners upgraded this former backpackers in 2017, transitioning the converted log cabin to a near boutique-level hotel – but maintaining a hiker focus with bunk beds in another location, a supply store and shuttles to trailheads.
Three stylish shipping-container cabins are built from reclaimed materials found throughout Georgia. They offer mountain, sunset or sunrise views and long-stay amenities (kitchenette, some with washer and dryer). The vibe and traveler camaraderie are gone and the bunk prices have skyrocketed, but it's still a wonderful option. There's a shuttle service from Atlanta for guests.
