Taqueria El Paisa@.com

Top choice in Oakland

Yes that is the name of this place, and no, we don't know how to say it out loud (a lot of locals just call it 'El Paisa'). Honestly, we would call this taco joint whatever it wants to be named, because the tacos are good beyond all superlative: simple, fresh, garnished with cilantro, onions, nopales (cactus); hands down delicious.

Look for a low slung little restaurant with a green awning, popular with lots of families and Oakland's Mexican population, and strap in: this is one of the best meals going in the East Bay. Bonus: it's not just excellent, it's dirt cheap.
