Terranea

Top choice in South Bay Beaches

Nature trails wrap this 120-acre property, skirt the wild coast and are open to the public at LA’s best five-star beach resort. Rooms are flooded with natural light and have been designed in classic California style, and even the smallest are spacious at 450 sq ft – 92% of them have ocean views.

Free activities for guests include nature walks and a meet-and-greet with the resort's own falconer. Paid activities include SUP, cycling excursions and painting classes.

Even if you don't stay here, it's worth stopping to stroll the grounds and enjoy a meal or drink at one of the eight restaurants and bars (chic and costly mar'sel is our favorite for Sunday brunch). Or come for a treatment at the spa – the Terranea Seaside Renewal uses salt scrub from the local shores. Or you might want to shoot a round on the nine-hole golf course.

Overnight guest parking is $38.

Fun fact: Terranea was once the domain of trick sea mammals, on the site of the old Marineland water park.
