Boston

Housed in the former Charles St Jail, this hot-to-trot drinking venue is in the old ‘drunk tank’ (holding cell for the intoxicated). The prison theme is played up, with mug shots hanging on the brick walls, and iron bars on the doors and windows. Prices are high and service can be lacking, but it's fun to drink in jail. Dress sharp.

In summer, there's a nice outdoor seating area. Upstairs, the Lobby Bar is set under the soaring ceiling in the hotel atrium.
