Cool Springs Station

Arizona

Resurrected in 2004, this gas station is a Route 66 classic. Built in the 1920s so motorists could refill and recline before tackling the hairpins of the 'gold road' to Oatman, it now has a museum and gift shop. This section of the road, leading into the jaws of the Black Mountains, is name-checked in The Grapes of Wrath.
