Green Iguana

US Virgin Islands

Up the hill behind Blackbeard’s Castle, this welcoming place is set in lush gardens and overlooks Charlotte Amalie Harbor. The nine rooms come in several configurations, but all have speedy wi-fi, satellite TV, microwave and refrigerator; some also have fully equipped kitchen and private balcony. It's more plain than luxurious, but good value if you don’t mind the steep walk.

It gets bonus points for being largely run on solar energy.
