L'Auberge

A venerable Punta del Este landmark, this visually striking 1940s hotel encompasses a cluster of faux-Tudor mansion houses, big grassy lawns, a 13-story fairy-tale tower and a teahouse serving afternoon tea and waffles (a tradition initiated by the hotel's Belgian founder). Upper-floor rooms in the tower are especially atmospheric, with windows overlooking the sea and the adjacent pine woods.
